Bio-fuel applications of PETRODIST® distillation systems

Bio-fuels and blends with fossil derived fuels in the middle distillate range, are becoming preferred and mandatory fuels in Europe and other parts of the world. These are mixtures of normal middle distillates with absolute alcohol, methyl and ethyl esters of long chain fatty acids, bio-liquids from biomass pyrolysis, which contain mixtures of unsaturated compounds.

Obviously, the bio-fuels and blends behave differently in their use in the standard Internal Combustion Engines and boilers and furnaces. To control their combustion behavior, several additives for oxidation stability, anti polymerization tendency, corrosion, anti coking tendency and combustion aids, etc. are added.

This changes the distillation characteristics of the bio-fuels which is extremely important in the combustion behavior of these fuels.
Similar challenges in the bio-lubes characterization exist, in the bio-base oil characterization.

PILODIST GmbH have come up with a range of testing equipment for characterizing bio-fuels, blends and bio-lubes that conform to emerging specifications on bio-fuels and bio-lubes in Europe and elsewhere in the world.

PILODIST 100 CC-B is the variant of highly successful PILODIST 100 CC, which has been internationally accepted for ASTM D 2892 protocol. This unit can fractionate bio fuels and bio oils up to diesel range effortlessly under D 2892 protocol to prepare narrow boiling fractions for analysis for bio-ethanol and bio-oil and fuel blends.

PILODIST 300 CC-B is again a variant of PILODIST 300 CC, which is the industry standard for ASTM D 1160 protocol for vacuum distillation of heavier fractions. PILODIST GmbH has modified the standard unit PETRODIST® 300 CC-F to get up to 4 fractions for further analysis for distribution of the fatty acid esters, additives and other constituents of bio-diesel, bio-lube stocks and heavier fractions of bio-oils from bio mass pyrolysis.
PILODIST GmbH is ready for characterizing BIO-FUELS, BIO-OILS AND BIO-LUBES for their distillation characteristics.
